ENROLMENT FOR SY NOW OPEN

Enrolment for SY 2002-2003 started on February 1, 2012. For those who are presently enrolled at LPS, you are required to submit your enrolment confirmation not later than February 15. Those enrolling for the first time are required to fill up properly the LPS Student Information Sheet, take the LPS Entrance Test and submit birth certificate, certificate of good moral character for transfer students, and later on before the start of the school year their academic report cards for SY 2011-2012. Our school physician will give medical examination. After completing the entrance test, student and parent will be interviewed by the Supervising Teacher, discussing the rules and regulations of the school, co-curricular activities, and how to study effectively. Reservation fee for new student is P300.00, which will be deducted in the June accounts of the child.

NO SCHOOL FEE INCREASE FOR SY 2012-2013; MANY NEW BENEFITS

There is no increase in tuition and other school fees for school year 2012-2013. As an ESC (Education Service Contracting) member, those enrolling at LPS in first year from the public schools will get an additional P5,500.00 in the form of tuition fee from the Department of Education (DepEd). Actually, those enrolled at LPS under ESC are now enjoying this amount of government assistance, which is automatically deducted in their tuition fees, while our professional teachers (LET passers) in high school get an additional P12,000.00 annually. Likewise, full tuition fee scholarship is given to valedictorian from any elementary school, 50 percent for salutatorian, and 20 percent for honorable mentions. The Barangay Council of San Isidro, Bay, is presently supporting two full scholars.    

THREE PASSED UPCAT, AT LEAST FOUR MORE WILL FOLLOW

Three fourth year students passed the University of the Philippines College Admission Tests (UPCAT) for SY 2012-2013: Marjorie Aguinaldo, B.Library and Information Science, U.P. Diliman; Mussaenda Sabarias, Developmental Communication, U.P. Los Baños; and Sheena de Jesus, Human Ecology, U.P. Los Baños. This number is lower than the five outright entries last year, where eventually nine qualified at U.P. However, based from our statistics for the past 20 years, at least four more will eventually go to U.P. as waitlisted this year.

FOURTH YEAR UNDERGOES COMMUNITY SERVICE

All fourth year students undergo the Community Service Program in lieu of the Civilian Advancement Training (CAT) that we used to have. The community service will be done every Saturday, from February 4 up to March 10. Mr. Albert Rivera handles this Program that includes cleaning the streets in San Isidro, improving the drainage system, tree planting, and proper waste disposal by composting and segregation of non-biodegradable items. Reporting time in school is 7:00 A.M.

MESSAGE FROM MRS. EMMA C. VENTURA, PRINCIPAL

On February 4, Saturday, parents will come and get the third quarter report cards of their children. This is your last chance to talk with your teachers regarding possible improvement in academic performance. I should like to remind the fourth year parents to come and talk with the class adviser and the supervising teacher, Mr. Albert Rivera so that remedial measure can be done for we are running out of time but still many of them seemed to be unmindful of their class performances. Yes, we do give failing grades even in fourth year, and some of them do not graduate for absences or inability to finish requirements especially the Experimental Research.

We have many co-curricular activities for the rest of the year, but we have to conduct still the Community Service Program for the fourth year as a requirement for graduation. I hope that our children will enjoy those activities, that parents and relatives will come to applause their performing children.

HAPPY 35th FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY!

LPS celebrated its 35th birthday last Saturday, January 7, 2012 with the entire family of the administrators attending the mass in Saint Augustine Church with Reverend Father Jessie Somosierra as main celebrant. In the afternoon, the family had its Holy Rosary prayer with the senior citizens of San Isidro. The day before, a Holy Mass celebrated by Reverend Father Jessie Somosierra was held at the LPS quadrangle attended by students, parents, with the senior citizens of San Isidro as guests, followed by a simple get-together party of teachers, senior citizens, and the staff of the Saint Augustine Parish. In that same afternoon, the annual Quiz Bee was held with Miss Rosa Aguirre and Mr. Albert Rivera as proctors. 

Celebrating the founding anniversary on January 7 is not easy and convenient because we are just through with the many Christmas activities; thus our 35th founding anniversary celebration will be spread throughout the year. Expect the gala coronation of Mr. and Miss LPS in February, the active participation of LPS alumni in the 2012 Recognition Program in March and our second Grand Alumni Homecoming during the summer break. Happy 35th Founding Anniversary!

C.S.O. PET PROJECT HAS STARTED

Priority in our school development program is the widening of the Elementary building corridor. Global weather has changed and it rains more than before so there is a need to widen the corridor to protect our little children from getting wet.

Our carpenter started cutting some of our mahogany trees for posts and thrashes. The corridor width will be enlarged to 175 cm from the present 100 cm, with 11 posts and galvanized iron sheet roofing. When completed, the entire corridor will be raised by 30 cm, which will be higher than the floodwater of 2009. Inasmuch as we have classes yet, the work this time is confined in constructing the posts and roof, then after classes in March, the corridor and classrooms will be raised. Just the same, there will be some disturbances and we request everybody for your understanding and patience. The estimated cost is P120,000.00 for materials and labor, and so far the CSO and GMRC Club have P19,000.00, but we expect more to come from the Bingo-Raffle and the Mr. and Miss Valentine projects. The CSO and GMRC Club thank parents and friends for giving in something in their Christmas caroling last month. Please continue supporting this worthy joint project with the able leadership of Kevin Panisales (CSO High School), Corina Faye Rosario (CSO Elementary), Paolo Barrera (Values Education Club) and Matthew Silab (GMRC Club).

MRS. YOLANDA CABANGBANG COLASTRE IS BACK     

With Mrs. Madel Mendoza on maternity leave (her baby boy came out much earlier than anticipated) there was a vacancy for one teacher. But it is not that easy to get an experienced high school English teacher, so Mrs. Mabel Francisco Rocamora (BSEd English, cum laude) is asked to take the place of Mrs. Mendoza, then hired another one as Substitute Grade Two teacher.

Mrs. Yolanda Cabangbang Colastre (teacher Bing), is not new at LPS, having taught here for one year (June 1988 to March 1989) as Grade One teacher. She is a graduate of BS Psychology from Colegio de San Juan de Letran, took up 18 Education units from the Colegio de Los Baños and 24 Masteral units in Special Education from the Philippine Normal University. She passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) with a general average rating of 83%. She served as Elementary teacher and College instructor at Colegio de Los Baños for seven years and then in other private schools in Laguna before returning to LPS. She is married to Mr. Rodrigo Colastre, and their marriage was blessed with a daughter who is going to graduate this April at UPLB with the degree of BS Applied Math. EDITORIAL: A TIMELY LESSON FOR ALL OF US

Since the start of LPS, management has been concerned with the proper disposal of our garbage with the philosophy of “If Nobody Scatters Dirt, There Is Nothing to Clean.” We are working continuously for a clean and beautiful LPS through the years. This school year, the Municipality of Bay embarked in a campaign and competition for the Solid Waste Management Performance. Last January 9, they gave the awards and LPS was third place in this contest.

The Plaque of Citation says, “This Recognition is hereby given to Little People School for satisfactorily complied with the provisions of RA 9003 and proven to the unannounced visits and monitoring conducted by Municipal Management Board (MSWMB) for “Best School in Solid Management Performance.” Signed: Honorable Jose O. Padrid, Municipal Mayor.

This is very good and encouraging already, but we are not doing our role well. We do not segregate our solid waste properly despite the “Nabubulok” and “Di-Nabubulok” signs in the garbage bags. Likewise, we have reduced the number of garbage bags and cans because teachers found out earlier that the dirtiest places were around them. This system worked, but some plastic and paper waste items are now inserted or hidden instead among ornamental plants. Likewise, children and visitors continue to throw thrash anywhere as they walk through our grounds.

We got a prize and we are all happy for it, but we have still many things to improve for a cleaner and more beautiful LPS. This should serve as a wake-up call for all of us. Can we count on your support? Thank you very much.

MESSAGE FROM MRS. EMMA C. VENTURA, PRINCIPAL

First of all, may I greet all of you a very happy and prosperous 35th Founding Anniversary and may I thank all LPS parents for your trust as our partners in the education of your children?

Very soon it will be graduation time, so I advise all fourth year students to hurry up with their research reports (last day of submission is January 31) and prepare now for their research defense (last day is February 14). As in the past years, without approval of research report and successful defense of research, the graduating student will have to stay this summer to complete all requirements before being allowed to graduate. Mrs. Sanvin Rozen Tamisin Oncinian, LPS Alumni Association President, is contacting our graduates where many of them are now based abroad so that they can come home together for the grand reunion this year.

Although most of the questions in the Administrator’s tests are about process skills, still there is a need to review the notes and textbooks for the fundamentals to be able to understand and answer the questions properly. In TLE or HELE, Science, English, Filipino, Reading, Literature, Values Education or GMRC, and PEHM, practical tests will be given. I advised all teachers to give review pointers for this is the most important test of the year. Please do not be absent for the entire period of the test because no special tests will be given. This is the confirmatory test for honor students and for those who should be retained in the same level next year. Good luck!
