33rd COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES ON MARCH 25;
CHRISTELLE JARAPLASAN IS CLASS VALEDICTORIAN
The 33rd Commencement Exercises of Little People’s School, Incorporated is set on March 25 (Thursday), 5:00 P.M. at the Little People’s Quadrangle. Dr. Edgardo Militante, Area Supervisor for Private Schools, Department of Education, Division of Laguna, is the Guest Speaker, confers the graduating children, gives an inspirational speech, and helps Mrs. Guillerma Ventura, School Founder and Principal, distributes the certificates and diplomas of completion in preschool, elementary, and secondary education.
The Recognition Program precedes the Graduation Ceremony at 8:00 A.M. of the same day, March 25 (Thursday), also at the Little People’s Quadrangle. The Baccalaureate Mass is set at 3:00 P.M., also at the LPS Quadrangle, with Reverend Father Jessie Somosierra officiating.
Christelle Jaraplasan leads Class 2010 as High School Class Valedictorian, carrying with her three important awards - Academic Achievement Award, Best Scientific Research, and Journalist of the Year. She will take up B.S. Agricultural Chemistry at the University of the Philippines in Los Baños. But Philip Thomas Paruan, in many ways, stole the limelight being the Batallion Commander of the LPS CAT and therefore got the highest honors in CAT, Athlete of the Year for being the team captain and center of the LPS Basketball Team that finally won the District Sports Meet this SY, and surprisingly even halved the Best Scientific Research with Christelle Jaraplasan.
SUMMER REVIEW CLASSES FOR UPCAT AND NAT
Summer classes will start on April 5 and end on May 21 for reviews for incoming fourth year (UPCAT and entrance tests of other Colleges), incoming grade 5, 6 and second year for the National Achievement Tests (NAT) in those levels, Journalism Class, remedial or advanced tutorial classes in Math, English, Reading and Writing, and special classes in Guitar, Piano, and Voice (Singing) lessons. Mr. Albert Rivera will handle Math for the UPCAT and NAT reviews, Miss Rosa Aguirre will take the English, Reading, and Writing lessons for the UPCAT and NAT reviews and for the Journalism Class, while Mrs. Alice Tanghal and Miss Liz Joy Garcia will handle Biology, Chemistry, and General Science lessons. Dr. Wilbur Ventura, Sr. will be directly involved in the reviews for UPCAT in English and Sciences, and the Journalism class. Depending on the enrollment, LPS will get another teacher to handle the Voice, Piano and Guitar lessons. Enrolment form is available from the class advisers of every grade or year level.
SOLICITATION FOR LIBRARY BOOKS
Typhoons Ondoy, Pepeng and Santi caused much damage in our school library. The floods damaged those in the lowest shelves wherein books were soaked in water, but we thought earlier that everything was all right for those in the upper shelves. However, one month after the floods, we found out that they were equally damaged because the moisture generated by water around the books evaporated and caused severe damage to the papers also.
We have, therefore, a Book Solicitation Project to replace worn-out books. We accept books as textbooks, references, or simply reading materials, either old or new. Please give your donated books to the Guidance Office, care of Mrs. Zenaida Quintos or Mrs. Alice Tanghal. Thank you very much for your cooperation and care for LPS. We shall acknowledge with letters all donations.

LIFE AT LPS
At the start of SY 2009-2010, Mrs. Ventura didn’t know what to do with the coming District Sports Meet. Just the same, she agreed having Intramural Games to select players for the district competition. But she found thin and short players for our basketball team, and worst, there was nobody to coach them. Anyhow, she decided to field our delegation. Then, Mr. Albert Rivera returned; at least someone could guide them fundamentals of basketball and volleyball that our children’s enthusiasm rekindled. For Ma’am Ventura, that was enough already, just that we could participate to expose our children in friendly sports competition with other schools. We may remember that in the near past, we had the best possible coaching staff but failed to be champions just the same. But history is kind this time for when we least expect to win, the Bay District Meet Championship in Basketball was given to us!
Then the triple typhoons of Ondoy, Pepeng, and Santi came, and we were literally caught flat-footed. After several days, the floods refused to go down, and Mrs. Ventura just didn’t know what to do. Mrs. Quintos thought of requesting Mayor Ramos the under construction second floor of the Municipal Hall extension, which the kind Mayor agreed. But with the kind of small children in preschool and primary grades that we have, it would not be possible to confine them in a limited space. At this juncture Mrs. Ventura thought that we still have LPS Los Baños intact. Thus in a record time of just 10 days, we were able to fix the classrooms and even constructed a shed for two additional classes. We stayed there for five weeks, and children learned to like their second school. So much so, that on the last day of our stay in Anos, they gave a farewell performance on stage to the delight of the neighbors. That opened the eyes of both Anos-Malinta community to have LPS back in their place. Mrs. Ventura agreed. Thus, we shall reopen LPS Anos in June this year to make sure that we shall always have a second school to run to! Then we had our Educational Field Trip in Baguio last February 26 – 28. Here are some of the happy incidents that happened there.
It was my first time to go there and so the funny experience that I had in Baguio was when I went to a public comfort room, where we fell in line because many people were waiting outside the door of the cubicle. It was about my turn when a woman hurriedly ran in front of me and whispered, “Hindi ko na kaya, ako muna ha?” At first I didn’t understand what she had told until she went inside the cubicle and locked the door, then a few seconds later something horrible smell filled the comfort room. I instantly laughed and said, “Success!”
Lady Dianne de Mesa
We had our field trip in Baguio last week of February during PANAGBENGA. I had experienced many things but one that I enjoyed most was when we watched the float parade at the Session Road. We saw many varied floats with lots of flowers and exotic designs in different colors and of course, with many artists (TV and movie personalities). Upon seeing them, I shouted on top of my voice to get their attention, and they responded with smile and even waved at me. I really enjoyed Baguio Educational Field Trip.
Marjorie Aguinaldo
(Editor’s Note: Marjorie is a shy type of girl, who rarely talks, but see how she expresses her emotions.)
When we were in Baguio Botanical Garden, we took pictures of the real Igorots in their native costume. How nice to see many nice legs! All of them seemed to be happy because they were all smiling and nodding their heads at us. But after the picture session, we were shocked when the Igorots shouted, “sampu, sampu.” We had to search for coins in our pockets.
Justin Von Licudo
I was so excited when we reached Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto, and we even ran up the hundreds of stairs to reach our Holy Mother. Upon reaching the top, just in front of the Grotto, I put on some candles to pray my thanks. But to my surprise, my candle fell down; causing a sort of domino reaction that felled the other lighted candles there too. The people who were praying looked at me, and I felt so ashamed.

After watching Panagbenga Festival, we went to SM Baguio for lunch. After that, my group of boys walked around outside; may be it took us quite long for we could not see anymore our teachers and schoolmates. We panicked, and to keep our cool we drank Coke. Because it seemed that we were left behind, we decided to walk our way back to Teachers’ Camp. It was a long walk, but we managed to reach the Camp, only to find out that they were not there, so I thought of calling Ma’am Lanip by cell phone. She instructed us to return to SM Baguio. O my God, we walked and walked again the hilly road and on the long stairs back to where we came from. But it was very memorable!
Russel Kim Manicad
By the night of February 27, we had an activity for the subject of Values Education where we presented a skit in which I was one of the main characters. I acted a big different personality in the skit where I acted as a crazy individual, an opposite deviation from my true me, and that’s why most in the crowd laughed. I also acted like a gay one time in the skit, and honestly I felt awkward, but realized the difficulty of being of the third sex. I found my schoolmates and teachers curious about my own personality, that up to now I felt some sense of shame. That was very funny!
Rosmund Tolentino
My funny experience in Baguio was when we performed the folk dance “Cariñosa” because I wore an old dress with varied colors, and designs were not uniform. My green dress glowed in the dark and my schoolmates were telling that were like in the street dancing festival for the lightness and thinness of my clothes. That happened during our program at the Teachers’ Camp. I wish readers would laugh.

After the School Administrator assigned Micah Galapon as the next Editor-in-Chief of VISION, Micah retorted, “How about Morris Garcia?”
And so, the kind doctor re-assigned Morris as Managing Editor. But the question is, “How will Morris survive Micah and Victoria Veterana in the new Editorial Staff?”
Answer: “Of course, Morris can handle them easily.” Expect therefore a more cordial relationship among Editorial Staff, and more interesting items, next SY with Micah and Morris at the helm.
EDITORIAL
Every beginning has its own ending. For me, it is now the time to close one chapter of my life – my being a high school student. I want to take this opportunity to say my thanks and to say goodbye.
When I am alone in my room, I always remember and miss the voices of my classmates, the laughter, the jokes, the sermon of our teachers, the songs we sang altogether, sound coming from a falling calculator, and others. Then I reminisce the memorable experiences since the first day I came to study at LPS, programs like acquaintance, party, intramurals, Christmas party, February Fair, and Research (for I experienced hardships here).
Somehow, I had a great time studying here at LPS and I want to thank the following for their love and care for me. To the Administrator who guided me to become a better student and person, and also thank you because you taught me to participate in activities. Thank you also to our teachers who always extend their patience on us and understand our behaviors, especially to our adviser, Miss Rosa Aguirre. Ma’am Rosa, we are sorry if we always commit mistakes. I know that you always scold to avoid those mistakes to happen again, and also for our own good. To my schoolmates, thank you for sharing happy moments with me, and thank you for your friendship. And to my classmates, thank you very much for giving me the coolest and happiest years of my high school life.
Moreover, to the VISION Newsletter Editorial Staff, thank you for helping me managed the VISION very well and also for the friendship you shared with me in writing articles and editing submitted articles for publication. As the outgoing Editor-in Chief, I now pass this responsibility to my Associate Editor, Micah Marie Galapon. I know Micah that you have the ability and patience to write and edit worthwhile articles and feature stories that would make life of every child and parent meaningful and enjoyable. I hope and pray for your success in publishing at least every month for indeed, news about our school is very important. I know that Victoria Veterana and
John Morris Garcia will help you run our Newsletter; let it grow further and make it better!
My four years of stay at LPS is very happy, fruitful, and memorable; I know that my alma mater is now a part of me, that I cannot go further without those lovely memories of my stay here. I hope and pray that when I will come and visit my school, it will be just like before, beautiful and full of worthwhile activities, like when I was a Lilliputian. Goodbye and see you again!
Christelle Jaraplasan
Message from the School Principal, Mrs. Guillerma C. Ventura
The Administrator’s Tests enabled us to discover hidden talents of many children, thus, we have longer Honor Roll this time, and there are many awardees in the co-curricular activities. We revived the presentation on stage of the Declamation contest, Singing and Dancing, and Arts (Drawing) contest. I expect everybody to be happy in our Recognition and Graduation Programs.
We opened several classes this summer to enable our children to review for the UPCAT and several NAT. Please fill up the enrollment form, and submit to your teacher-in-charge ASAP. Dr. Wilbur Ventura, Sr. will handle intricate techniques of effective reading, writing and speaking; will also handle Journalism Class and Science Reasoning. See you in summer!
Despite the floods and El Niño droughts, we are still standing, healthy and strong, and I can see the enthusiasm of every teacher in our Enrolment Drive. May I request our parents their outmost cooperation in this endeavor to build a bigger and stronger LPS. Happy Recognition Day and Graduation!
MESSAGE FROM THE FOURTH YEAR CLASS ADVISER
Another school year is about to end. Now, I get the chance to flash back all that happened in the school year. I feel grateful for hard long another year’s fourth year class.
This school year, I became the senior class’ adviser for the third time. Being a fourth year adviser, I always see it as a challenge. It is because I have to handle another batch of different set of individuals. As much as possible, I tried to avoid comparison from my previous class advisory. That is to give myself the opportunity to see a new set of talented and intelligent individuals. I guess the saying “no pain, no gain” is true. I really did experience a lot of roller coaster in my class. There were times that my class showed their childish antics that both amazed and raised my eyebrows. Yes, these fourth year are but young kids who wanted to learn many things in school and play at the same time. But, it was understandable on my part because I am their adviser. Who else will understand them better than I do?
However, being an adviser was not always easy for I needed to make them learn the hard way. I remembered my mother told me that I should be sweet and kind to my students for they are just kids. But, I guess time taught me also to be tough at times; tough because I wanted my class to be ready facing the next chapter of their lives. I hope they did. But, with all of these experiences with them, I am thankful that I was given the chance to spend full 10 months with my class as well as to my other classes. I may have taught them many things in my subject but they too taught me to become a better adviser, a better teacher, a better me.
Thus, I want to take this opportunity to thank my fourth year class for being with me the whole school year. My heart breaks knowing that you are all leaving. But I feel happy that you are now prepared to embark new challenges in your lives. I won’t say goodbye but see you again. God bless you all!
Miss Rosa A. Aguirre
