OPENING OF CLASSES IS RESET TO JUNE 9
Opening of classes at LPS Bay and Los Baños is reset to June 9 (Wednesday). However, enrolment continues for two more weeks to give enough time for everybody to enroll.
With the reopening of LPS Los Baños, we expect more work for LPS management and teachers in maintaining not only the physical aspects of the school but also its quality of education. It is expected, however, that LPS could manage to give the best education possible, like when Mrs. Guillerma Ventura was the lone teacher in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s.
LPS Los Baños has been renovated with two classrooms, two comfort rooms, an office and library, a waiting shed that serves as canteen at the same time, a concrete program stage, and spacious playground for the preschoolers. Mrs. Maria Gracia S. Carandang is in-charge of LPS Los Baños, but we expect another teacher to be hired for the second classroom.
A TOTAL OF FIVE PASSED UPCAT
A total of five of Class 2010 passed UPCAT, with Jelriz Joi Lanip also qualifying in BS Human Ecology. Aside from Jelriz Joi, the others who have already enrolled at UP Los Baños are Christelle Jaraplasan (BS Agricultural Chemistry), Claire Tanghal (BS Agricultural Economics), Ma. Reyina Turtur (BS Applied Physics), and Beatrice de Guzman (BS Human Ecology). We are sure that class 2011 will try to surpass the UPCAT performance of Class 2010. Good luck!
IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER AT LPS
1. Cell phones should be turn off while inside the classrooms. This is to avoid distraction of the flow of discussion or activity during classes. This includes parents and others who are waiting for the children just outside the room.
2. Anti-Littering Drive. We must ensure that the school premises are clean and that all students must show their concern in keeping the school spic and span. It is a part of the training of our children, thus, every piece of paper, candy wrapper or trash of any kind should be picked up and thrown in the trashcan or trash bag, whether in the classroom, corridor, canteen, or ground. This includes keeping our comfort rooms clean by flushing the toilet bowl or urinal after use and not writing anything on the walls and doors.
3. No Smoking Inside LPS Campus. LPS never tolerates smoking in campus. This is applicable to everybody who comes to LPS.
4. Wearing of Proper School Uniform. School uniforms with school seal should be worn properly and neatly, together with a pair of black leather shoes, and not rubber shoes. Uniforms should not be worn hanging in one’s shoulder. Students that are wearing incomplete uniform will be referred to the Guidance Office. Students may not yet wear their school uniforms in the first week of classes.
5. LPS Canteen Rules. Our policy in the canteen is SELF-SERVICE. Students should fall in line while buying. Spoons, forks, plates, and bottles should be returned to their proper places. Tabletops should be kept clean. Avoid throwing or dropping anything on the floor. Trash should be placed properly in the trashcan.
6. Check with the school office all the things your child needs like notebook, crayons, pencils, and the text-and workbooks for the school year.
7. Make arrangement with the school office about the school transport service so that the driver will know the direction of your residence and will come and fetch your child on time for the first day of classes. This is applicable for both LPS Bay and LPS Los Baños. Your child must be ready before the vehicle arrives to avoid the children from being late.
8. Some foodstuffs are spoiled already by lunchtime because of packing problem. Check your food container, and make sure that the food has cooled off before packing it.
9. Give provisions for extra clothing for children have many outdoor activities in school.
10. Inform the office about the health condition of your child, especially if your child has some health constraints, so that the teacher will know what to do in case during physical education activities or cleaning of the classroom. Better still, make appointment with our school doctor to be sure that your child will be safe and sound while in school.
11. We require parents to follow up the lessons and activities of their children in school. It is essential to check the homework and assignments, so that they can complete these before returning to school, or able to procure the “things-to-bring” before your children need them for certain experiments and activities. We have the “Homecom” notebook to facilitate the communication between teacher and parent, especially for schedule of meetings and requests from either teacher or parent.
12. We require parents to attend school meetings and programs that showcase the talents of the children. For how will you know what is happening in school to your child if you are not attending meetings? And who will give warm applause for a good performance of a child if not the parents and relatives themselves?
13. Inform the school if your child is absent due to sickness or other reasons. You may call through our school PLDT phone (536-4580).
14. We discourage colored hairs and wearing of earrings among boys and more than two sets of earrings for the girls.
15. We give two weeks for the preschool pupils to adjust themselves. For the first week or two, parents may sit with their children inside the classroom, but after that they should slowly distance themselves so that the children will gain self-confidence and can work on their own.
MRS. EMMA VENTURA’S MESSAGE, SUMMER CLOSING PROGRAM, May 21, 2010
My dear LPS parents, teachers, students, I wish you all a pleasant good morning.
During the days of the cowboys and cowgirls in America in the 1800’s, the cowboy bar is a prominent place after a hard day’s work with the cows and horses in their ranches. They had good time there with songs, dances, speeches, and what have you. But, nobody would leave the place until the end of the night for they were always waiting for the final number, waiting for the fat lady. Why? It’s because the best part of the night is the rendition of the fat lady! That nobody should leave “til the fat lady sings. This becomes the proverbial fat lady in the colloquialism, “It ain’t over ‘til the fat lady sings.” And boy, could that doll sing.
In our Journalism class, I am pleased that Nikki Estenor, Corina Faye Rosario, and Vernon Ventura stayed throughout the summer term ‘til the fat lady sings.” They finished the course to the end, a trait that we should always keep, for it determines our success in our endeavor. The tutorial classes for Math, English and Science was intended for remedial lessons, but you see the good ones, like Mark Ebron and Charles Rosario came, that it turned out to be advanced lessons instead. All of them did not leave “til the fat lady sings” thus I expect them to become even better by June.
In our Review Class for College Entrance Tests, especially for the UPCAT, we are not yet over. We have to wait "til the fat lady sings.” This Closing Program is just the beginning, and I trust that tomorrow until June 7, you continue with your own review, you dig your own books in Sciences, Math and English because this lull period of two weeks is crucial, most important in your review, in your preparation for UPCAT. And, comes June 7, you will have more subjects, for the other teachers in Chemistry, Physics, and Research will be here already.
Five of Class 2010 entered UPLB. From our records, this is the lowest percentage of UPCAT passers, for previously, we were sending from seven to more than ten to U.P. I am pleased, however, that based from the initial reports of the UPCAT Reviewers, many this time are making good and we expect most, if not all of them to pass.
For the meantime, may I congratulate all our summer graduates in Journalism, Advanced Tutorial Classes, and Review for College Admission for their enthusiasm and perseverance, Please do not stop your review now, continue with what you have learned, do not leave “til the fat lady sings.” Thank you very much.

MESSAGE FROM MRS. EMMA VENTURA, PRINCIPAL
May I first welcome you to Little People’s School for school year 2010-2011? Thank you for entrusting your children to us in this most important endeavor.
Our faculty staff for school year 2010-2011 is a combination of experienced and new teachers. Many of them have been here for several years already, with Mrs. Quintos and Mrs. Lanip topping the list who are now in their 24th and 22nd years, respectively, of teaching with us. Even our new teachers are a combination of experienced and fresh graduates. Mr. Maliksi, Mrs. Cañal and Mrs. Carandang have taught in other schools for several years, while Miss Lyll Caren Sanchez is a new graduate. Miss Luz Nuñez is taken in to take care our library. Mr. Maliksi is a “jack-of-all trades” who can teach gardening, carpentry, electricity-electronics, and auto-mechanics, aside from History. Mrs. Cañal is bringing with her teaching experiences from the UP Rural High School and Maquiling School, thus, we look forward in her involvement in improving our instructional system in English. Mrs. Maria Gracia Carandang has six years of teaching experience in kindergarten and elementary grades in the public school, and it is interesting to see how she will blend with Mrs. Helen Martinez in improving further our instruction in pre-elementary.
We are already satisfied with our instructional system in pre-elementary and elementary, but we must improve further our high school. Thus, we shall return to having an experimental class in second year, with only eight students, to see if the system I have in mind would work. I am happy that parents of those included in this experimental class agreed, and I can assure you that they will learn faster and more with this new system. I selected Miss Madel de la Cruz, Mr. Albert Rivera, Mrs. Alice Tanghal, and Mr. Neil Paul Maliksi to be involved primarily in this endeavor, with Miss Madel de la Cruz as the class adviser.
The fourth year class was not able to finish the UPCAT review last summer, so we shall continue it until last week of July. This will benefit everybody because the review is also useful for entrance tests of other Colleges and Universities.
Our maintenance people are telling me that it will take several days more to complete fixing our grounds and classrooms, so I agreed to the postponement of classes to June 9 (Wednesday), so they can fix our drainage system, complete the repainting of the outer sides of our classrooms, and repair some doors and windows. The school service vehicles are now being repainted all yellow as requirement for vehicle registration. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has finally approved our LPS Los Baños Constitution and By-Laws, and we expect DepEd Supervisors to come and inspect LPS Los Baños anytime now. I hope we have given enough time for everybody to enroll by next week. Thank you very much.
