LPS LOS BAÑOS TO REOPEN IN JUNE 2010

It is definite that LPS Los Baños will reopen in June 2010 with Mrs. Mary Grace Sangkal Carandang as the main teacher. Mrs. Carandang is a graduate of BS Education, major in Preschool, had passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) and with six years experience as teacher in preschool and elementary grades in the public schools in Los Baños. Mr. and Mrs. Carandang have two children, a boy and a girl who are in nursery and preparatory at LPS Bay. Their house is just across the railroad track of LPS Los Baños in Barangay Anos.

So far, 19 children have reserved for enrolment in June in kindergarten and preparatory. Reservation for enrolment is open; please see Mrs. Mary Grace Carandang in Anos or come to the main school in San Isidro, Bay. Likewise, another teacher is needed for the second classroom in nursery and preparatory. Please apply directly to the Guidance Office, LPS Bay.

ANNUAL ADMINISTRATOR’S TESTS ON JANUARY 18 & 19

The School Administrator and Principal themselves will give the annual Administrator’s tests in all levels on Monday and Tuesday (January 18 and 19). The Administrator prepares and administers the tests from Grade 5 to Fourth Year, while the Principal takes care of the tests from Preschool to Grade 4. The topics are reading ability, reading comprehension, spelling, copying rate, vocabulary words, Math, and Science. Included from grade 5 to high school are the Science Reasoning Comprehension and Science laboratory activities. Current Events are for all levels.

The purpose of these tests is to evaluate the learning ability of LPS as a school and to see the performance of our present crop of teachers.

GRADE SIX AND SECOND YEAR TO REVIEW FOR NAT

Like in previous years, LPS reviews the grade six and second year classes for the National Achievement Tests to be given in early March. Subjects are English, Math, Science, Filipino, and Hekasi. To be able to review them very well in seven weeks, we shall provide the children with review materials at P200 per child. The reviewers are their subject teachers themselves under the supervision of the school principal.

HALF-DAY CLASSES ON JANUARY 16 (SATURDAY)

We have only morning classes on Saturday (January 16) for fogging against the Dengue mosquitoes and this will give enough time for our teachers to complete their revised course plan for the remaining part of the school year. The preschool are least affected because they have continuous regular classes in Los Baños, so it is just all right for the prep to miss one Saturday.

High School Baguio Trip Set on February 26 to 28 (Tentative)

The educational field trip of the high school is set on February 26 to 28 although our trip coordinator is trying to schedule our trip to coincide with the PINAGBENGA (Flower) festival. Anyway, we have already a reservation in the Teachers’ Camp in Baguio to enable us to have activities for Values Education in the evening. Places to be visited include the Baguio Cathedral, Grotto, P.M.A., Burnham Park, Mines View Park (for the Baguio souvenirs), La Trinidad Valley and others. Every student is required to submit a trip report in the subject of English and Science (about the cultural practices in La Trinidad Strawberry Farms). The Pinagbenga (Flower) Festival is being attended by movie personalities and tourists. This is a rare chance, thus, I am inviting parents to join us in this trip, aside from attending the cultural presentation of our children in Baguio.

Message from Mrs. Emma C. Ventura, School Principal

I am very pleased with the response and enthusiasm of the Anos and Malinta communities regarding the reopening of Little People’s Kindergarten in Anos, Los Baños. During our stay there, I received good comments about the success of our products that are now mostly College graduates and well placed in their profession or jobs. The people encouraged me to return there, honestly even scolding me for having deserted them for many years. Inasmuch as we have still our Government Permit to operate preschool education there, I decided to reopen this in June. I am glad that we have a ready teacher, in the person of Mrs. Mary Grace Sangkal Carandang whose family is very close to my family; in fact they sold us the first lot for a very low price just that we would stay there. The response of the communities of Anos and Malinta is very warm with their initial reservation of 19 children. See you in June!

We have the National Achievement Tests to be administered by DepEd in early March. We like our children to make good in these tests, we better give them a review.

Schooling is never complete without an educational field trip for the children to see and learn things that are in the books. We shall have many activities, with a sort of cultural presentation while we shall be in the Teachers’ Camp in Baguio, then, we shall visit the Strawberry Farm, the Baguio Cathedral and Grotto, Philippine Military Academy, Burnharm Park, Mines View Park, among other places. I expect our children to interview farmers of La Trinidad valley in this mountaintop farming system, producing cabbages, strawberries, Baguio beans and a variety of vegetables that we usually have in our dining tables. Hopefully, we can watch the Penagbenga.

This coming Saturday afternoon, our graduates Sanvin Rozen Tamisin and Philip Kerby Oncinian will exchange marriage vows. Both of them studied at LPS from nursery to fourth year. Sanvin has the distinction of being the only LPS student that held the CSO presidency and editor-in-chief of VISION for four straight years. She is now our President of the LPS Alumni Association. She told us that she is contacting our graduates who are now staying and working in other countries so that they will synchronize their vacation to the Philippines and we can meet all of them at the same time as an LPS grand Alumni Homecoming.

Hon. Cesar Comia, Bay Vice Mayor and our CAT Commandant, started the CAT activities yesterday, January 14.
